Donovan Hewitt chartered architects

We are a small architectural practice providing architectural and planning services through out Surrey and surrounding areas, specialising in domestic housing projects for private clients. 

The practice was founded by Donovan Hewitt in 1972 and based in Leatherhead, Surrey. On Mr Hewitt's retirement  in 1996 the practice was taken over by Graham Ryding BSc. Dip Arch. RIBA. 

The practice is RIBA Chartered.

Graham has extensive experience of acting as architect and contract administrator in many different sectors including private schools, university, health, Home Office, Royal Household, local authority, historic buildings, small commercial,  housing development, and predominantly, residential houses and extensions for private clients.

The majority of projects are in Surrey and southeast England although others have been carried out in different parts of the country.

Planning applications are prepared and submitted for most projects. These include obtaining planning permission in the Green Belt, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Conservation Areas, and for historic buildings including those Listed Grade I and Grade II. 

Planning applications are regularly submitted to Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead, Elmbridge Guildford, Epsom & Ewell, Sutton, Croydon, and other surrounding local authorities.

Every project is different, every client has their particular aims, ideas, aspirations and requirements and every building and site its own character, limitations, possibilities and potential.

It is our aim to understand and respond accordingly creating individual tailored services and designs, each suited to the individual site and environment, client requirements, goals and aspirations. 

Domestic extension projects range from small single storey rear extensions through to large complex extensions including house re-modelling, internal and external. Construction values vary from around £50,000 through to £2m.  The practice has experience of over 300 domestic extension projects.  In addition replacement and new build domestic projects are undertaken with construction values ranging from £300,000 through to £7m. 

 The practice has a policy of maintaining a mix of smaller and larger projects.  

Services include architectural design, outline design, planning applications, building regulation applications, building over agreements, detail design, working drawings, specification, contract administration, and acting as Principal Designer.
